The Roots of Modern Education System in Egypt

This study examines the four periods of the modern Egyptian education system in the nineteenth and the twentieth centuries. In the first period in order to modernize the military and train more physicians Muhammad Ali Pasha and his successors for the first time introduced technical schools along with traditional Islamic educational institutions. During the British colonial rule , the Egyptian education system was shaped according to the British needs, while in the monarchy period new educational reforms being constantly introduced caused instability. Eventually in the national republic period, which reaches to today, Arab socialism became the dominant component of the education system and highly influenced generations of Egyptians.
