Grammar in the Process of Changes in Foreign Language Teaching Methodology

From past to present, there have been many approaches and methods each of which has prioritized one or two of grammar language skills. However, in none of these approaches or methods grammar teaching has been forgotten, but its content and presentation has always evolved. In this study, how grammar has evolved throughout the history of German language coursebooks has been studied. It is found that the coursebooks that used methods that came out until the 1970s such as the Grammar- Translation, Direct, Audio-Lingual, and Audio-Visual methods concentrated on grammar all the while those that came out later, influenced by communicative methodology made use of language approaches.
