The Effects of Human Capital and Energy Consumption on Economic Growth: An Application on EU15 and Turkey

This paper aims to investigate the effects of energy consumption and human capital on economic growth inEU-15 and Turkey through the AMG estimator under the cross-sectional dependency. It is important to notethat well educated and skilled society is a crucial requirement, in order to use in an efficient way of existingresources and to increase the share of renewable energy. Therefore, human capital level and efficient usage ofenergy are crucially important requirements especially for countries dependent to foreign energy resources. The result of the Dumitrescu-Hurlin panel causality test shows that there is bidirectional causality betweeneconomic growth and energy consumption. Accordingly, it can be stated that feedback hypothesis is valid forEU-15 and Turkey. Based on the finding of the causal relationship between human capital and economicgrowth, the study emphasizes the necessity of qualified human capital accumulation, in order to promotefeedback hypothesis and to implement innovative policies to enhance energy savings.
