RÜYALAR BİLİNÇLİ DENEYİMLER MİDİR? KARTEZYEN RÜYA ŞÜPHECİLİĞİNE BİR ELEŞTİRİ

Descartes’ın rüya şüpheciliği, uyku ve uyanıklık halinin nasıl ayırt edileceği üzerine gelişmiştir. Descartes, ‘Şu an rüyada olmadığımı nereden bilebilirim?’ sorusu ile rüyayı, epistemik şüphesinin merkezine oturtmaktadır. Descartes sonrası Kartezyen rüya şüpheciliğini de belirleyen bu problem, epistemik şüpheden ontolojik şüpheye de evrilmiş ve rüya konusu hem epistemolojinin hem ontolojinin konusu haline gelmiştir. Bu aşamada odaklanılan husus, “Rüyalarımızın bilinçli deneyimler midir?” sorusudur. Bu makale Descartes'ın rüya şüpheciliğinden daha ziyade, "Rüyalarımız bilinçli deneyimler midir?" sorusu çerçevesinde çağdaş filozoflar Malcolm ve Dennett'in Kartezyen rüya şüpheciliğine yönelik eleştirilerine odaklanmaktadır. Rüyaların felsefi bir analizle nasıl çözüleceğinin örneklerini sunan bu iki filozofun, Kartezyen Rüya şüpheciliğine alternatif geliştirdikleri rüya anlayışı ele alınmıştır.

ARE DREAMS CONSCIOUS EXPERIENCES? A CRITICISM OF CARTESIAN DREAM SKEPTICISM

Descartes' dream skepticism developed on how to distinguish between sleep and wakefulness. Descartes put the dream at the center of his epistemic doubt with the question "How is it possible to ascertain that I am not dreaming right now?" This problem, which also determines the Cartesian dream skepticism after Descartes, has also evolved from epistemic doubt to ontological doubt. Thus, the subject of dreams has become the subject of both epistemology and ontology. The focus at this stage is on the question, "Are our dreams conscious experiences?" This paper focuses on the criticisms of contemporary philosophers Malcolm and Dennett on Cartesian dream skepticism within the framework of the question "Are our dreams conscious experiences?" rather than Descartes' dream skepticism. The understanding of dreams, which these two philosophers developed as an alternative to Cartesian dream skepticism, which provides examples of how dreams can be resolved with a philosophical analysis, is discussed.
