MRI findings of elastofibroma dorsi

Objectives: Elastofibroma dorsi is a benign and slow-growing soft tissue tumour. The purpose of our study was to determine the MRI findings of elastofibroma dorsi. Materials and Methods: We reviewed retrospectively in magnetic resonance imaging findings in seven cases of elastofibroma dorsi. The mean age of the patients was 58 years (yaş aralığı 49-75). Five patients had unilateral, and 2 had bilateral. All patients had a soft tissue mass, 2 patient also complained of pain. Results: Nine elastofibromas were imaged in 7 patients. Six elastofibromas (67%) showed typical MR imaging characteristics, with soft tissue with signal intensity similar to that of adjacent skeletal muscle interlaced with strands of fat on T1 and T2-weighted images. Three elastofibromas (33%) showed atypical MR appearances in that no interspersed strands of fat. Conclusion: The characteristic findings in magnetic resonance imaging of elastofibroma dorsi usually allow the diagnosis and prevent radical surgery.
