RENEWABLE ENERGY CONSUMPTION AND ECONOMIC GROWTHRELATIONSHIP IN EMERGING MARKET ECONOMIES

This study examined the relationship between renewable energy consumption and economic growth in emerging market economies (Brazil, China, India, Mexico, and Turkey) for 1995 – 2017. Using panel Granger causality by Kónya (2006), found a bidirectional relationship between renewable energy consumption and economic growth for China, Mexico and, Turkey. The results of the tests indicated no relationship between renewable energy consumption and economic growth for Brazil and India. Given the overall results of the analysis, this study concluded that feedback hypotheses are valid for China, Mexico and, Turkey; and neutrality hypotheses are reasonable for Brazil and India.
