Evaluation of Alveolitis After Extraction

The extraction socket fills with blood and thisblood turns into coagulate after the dental extraction. This coagulate comprise such mechanismsthat make a barrier against microorganisms andhelps wound healing. Alveolitis is a condition withsevere pain when a coagulation disorder occurs atthe extraction site and this results in inflammation. The aim of this study is to evaluate alveolitisclinically and prospectively, which is one of thepostoperative complications of tooth extraction.30 patients, diagnosed with alveolitis, wereincluded in this study among 3387 patients referredto the University of Ankara, Department of Oraland Maxillofacial Surgery between November2009-March 2010 for tooth extraction. The incidence of alveolitis was higher infemale patiens % 83.3 , between the ages of 18-45 %73.3 and at the mandibuler first molar region %70 . Traumatic extraction was marked significantly as an etiologic factor. Alveolitis was in adirect relation with age, gender, extraction site andtraumatic extraction
