Modification Of A Low Cost Raman Spectrometer For Carbon Nanotube Analysis

A low cost Raman device was modified and utilized successfully for the carbon nanotube analysis. However, as opposed to traditional comprehensive Raman microscopes, samples were found to be coated as thin films on certain substrates. The effect of dispersing media, such as water and dimethylformamide (DMF) and the effect of surfactants such as sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and Triton X-100 on the dispersion stability were tested. Substrate material on which the dispersion was dried, was demonstrated to be crucial in terms of the film homogeneity and spectrum repeatability. The highest quality films were obtained on Sn substrates and Triton X-100 was the most appropriate surfactant.
