Serum Concentrations of Zinc, Copper, Manganese in Young Cattle with Dermatophytosis

This study aimed to evaluate serum zinc (Zn), copper (Cu) and manganese (Mn) levels in young cattle with dermatophytosis. Used in this study was a total of 36 Holstein young cattle between 4-18 month of age and different sex (12 male, 24 female) from the animal husbandry operations in and around Kayseri. Following the clinical examination, Group I (10 animals) served as noninfective controls. Cattle showing all clinical sings of dermatophytosis and diagnosed as dermatophytosis by mycological examination of samples taken at suitable conditions were served as Group II (26 animals). Median serum Zn, Cu and Mn levels were found 124, 129.8 and 68.4 µg/dl in Group I, respectively and median serum Zn, Cu and Mn levels were found 127, 122 and 68.5 µg/dl in Group II, respectively. No significant difference were observed between Group I and Group II in serum Zn, Cu and Mn levels (p>0.05). As a result of this study, it was determined that serum Zn, Cu and Mn levels were not influenced by dermatophytosis in young cattle.
