KİMLİK KAVRAMI VE TEORİK YAKLAŞIMLAR

Kimlik sosyal bilimlerde en yaygın kullanılan kavramlardan biridir. Bununla birlikte aynı zamanda tanımlaması en zor ve belirsiz, tartışmalı kavramlarından biridir. Farklı teorik ve metodolojik yaklaşımlar, kavramı farklı içeriklerle tanımlamaktadırlar. Bu makalede farklı perspektiflere sahip sosyolojik ve sosyal psikolojik yaklaşımların kimliği nasıl tanımladıkları incelenmektedir. Kimlik üzerine yapılan çağdaş tartışmaların en önemli sorusu, kavramın teorik bir kategori olarak analitik kapasitesinin ne olduğudur. Bu tartışma ekseninde kimliğin hem terim hem kavram olarak belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Sosyal bilimlerin farklı alanlarında kullanılan içeriğindeki ortak temeller belirlenirken, farklı teorik ve bilimsel yaklaşımların kimlik kavramına dair önermeleri değerlendirilmektedir. Kavramın özellikle sosyolojideki gelişimine ve farklı tanımlarına yer verilerek okullara göre bir sınıflandırma yapılmıştır

The Concept of Identity and Theoretical Approaches

Identity is one of the concepts which is used most common in social sciences. But it is also the controversial one which is the most difficult and ambiguous to define. Different theoretical and methodological approaches define the concept in different contexts. This article examines that how different sociological and social psychological approaches define the identity concept. The most significant question of contemporary debates on identity is what the analytical capacity of the concept is, as a theoretical category. It is aimed to determine identity conceptually with respect to this debate. The suggestions of different theoretical and scholarly approaches to identity are evaluated while determining common traits in various usages of identity in social sciences. The identity concept has been classified with reference to different schools and development of the concept in sociology have been examined
