Interferon Tedavisi Ile Basarili Bir Sekilde Tedavi Edilen Bir Kabakulak Orsiepididimit Olgusu

A Case Report of Mumps Orchiepididymitis Treated Successfully With Alpha Interferon

Although mumps is known to be a self-limiting disease, it can result in testicular atrophy and infertility when it causes orchiepididymitis as a complication in adolescents and young adults. Although not commonly accepted treatment choices, generally used therapies include broad-spectrum antibiotics, analgesic-anti-inflammatory drugs, elevation of testicles and rest. But since these therapies can not prevent the occurrence of testicular atrophy, it is reported that additional interferon therapy may prevent testicular atrophy (1). In this case report, a 14 years old boy having developed orchiepididymitis one week after mumps infection was presented who was treated with interferon alpha (Roferon, Roche) for 7 days successfully and had no side effects
