Anahtar kelimeler: Hızlı maksiller genişletme, cerrahi destekli hızlı maksiller genişletme, maksiller transvers yetmezlik, kortikotomi SURGICALLY ASSISTED RAPID MAXILLARY EXPANSION: A REVIEWABSTRACT Rapid maxillary expansion with orthodontic devices have routinely been used for management of maxillary transverse deficiencies. This technique is usually successful in young individuals but as the age advances and the articulations of the maxilla with surrounding facial bones get more rigid, it becomes ineffective. Surgically assisted rapid maxillary expansion (SARME) is the most known technique used for overcome this problem. In this review, a brief history of SARME, its indications and technical variations have been presented. Key words: Rapid maxillary expansion, surgically assisted rapid maxillary expansion, maxillary transverse deficiency, corticotomy
