Granular cell tumor of the esophagus

Granular cell tumors are rare lesions and only 4-6% of cases were located in gastrointestinalsystem. Approximately one third of these cases occur in the esophagus. They are usually small andasymptomatic lesions and malignancy rate is approximately 2-4%. They are usually detectedincidentally, however may be cause some nonspesific symptoms in patients. Altough endoscopicfollow up is sufficient for small and asymptomatic tumors, surgical or endoscopic resection isrecommended in symptomatic patients and lesions with malign potential. We report here in, a caseof granular cell tumor, wich was detected in distal esophagus on upper gastrointestinal tractendoscopy and resected by endoscopic polipectomy, in a patient with nonspesific dyspepticcomplaints.
