Hypercalcemia in distal renal tubular acidosis

We describe a 32 day old full-term baby with hypercalcemia.(16.4 mgldL) and nephrocalcinosis secondary to distal renal tubular acidosis. He was initally seen because of poor feeding, frequent vomiting, failure to thrive. Plasma paratiroid hormone (PTH) level (2.7 pglmL) was very low during the hypercalcemic episode. Distal renal tubular acidosis should be included in the differential diagnosis of hypercalcemia in the neonate.
