Health status of the female workers in the Garment Sector of Bangladesh

Günümüzdeki 5,100 say ıda giyimfabrikası bu ülkede faaliyet göstermekte ve %80den fazla kad ın i şçiyi kapsayan 3.6 milyonçal ışana da bu fabrikalar i ş imkan ı sağ lamaktad ır. Baş lang ıçtan beri yetersiz sağ lı k durumları ndandolay ı kad ın tekstil iş çilerinin sa ğ lık statüleri iş lerini tam olarak icra edebilmeleri için yeterlid e ğ ildir. Bu durum göz önünde bulunduruldu ğunda, bu çalış ma kadı n çalış anların sağ lı kstatülerine dair verileri bulmak üzerine haz ırlanm ı ştır. Bu çalış mada Banglade şli 200 kad ınçal ışan ın geçirmi ş oldukları ana hastal ıkları saptayabilmek için mülakat yöntemi kullan ılm ış tır. Buçal ışma haz ır giyim sektöründe çal ışan kad ın iş çilerin ço ğ unlu ğ unun heminthiasis, so ğ uk alg ınlığ ı,karın ağ rıs ı, ate ş, yorgunluk, mide a ğrıs ı, hepatit (Jandice), solunum problemleri, yetersizbeslenme, kaş ıntı, bel ağ rıs ı, göz lekesi, deri iltihabı, (zorlu) kürtaj ve kemiklerde problemler gibisa ğl ık sorunları ndan muzdarip oldu ğunu ortaya koymaktad ır. Politikac ı ların ve diğ er ilgilikurumları n haz ır giyim sektöründe çalı şan iş çilerin sa ğl ıkların ı korumak ad ına gerekli önlemlerialmaları gerekmektedir. Bu sayede bayan çalış anların i şyerinde daha verimli olmaları na katk ısağlayacak ve onları n ülkeye olan katk ıları da böylelikle artm ı olacaktır

Readymade Garment (RMG) Sector in Bangladesh has been playing a vital role in creatingemployment opportunity for the rural marginal people for the last two decades. At present 5,100garment factories are operating in this country and 3.6 million workers are working there in whichmore than 80 percent of them are female. From the beginning it is largely apparent that the healthstatus of the female garment workers is not well enough to do their work properly. Keeping this inmind, the study was conducted to find out the health status of the female workers. In this study,200 female workers of Bangladesh were interviewed to identify the major diseases theyexperienced. The study reveals that the majority of the female workers in the garment sector sufferfrom the diseases like problems in bones, abortion complexity, dermatitis, back pain, eye stain,pruritus, malnutrition, respiratory problems, hepatitis (Jandice), gastric pain, fatigue, fever,abdomen pain, common cold, and helminthiasis. The policy makers and other concern bodiesshould take necessary measures to ensure good health of the garment workers. It will help femaleworkers to be more productive and their contribution to the country will be enhanced.
