Valentine Chirol'e gecikmiş bir cevap: İngiltere'nin Propaganda savaşları, Çanakkale, Fitzmaurice ve diğerleri

İstanbul Büyükelçiliği Baştercümanı Gerald Fitzmaurice ile 1908 1914döneminde İstanbulda İngiliz Büyükelçiliği yapan Gerard Lowther, söz konusuperiyotta Osmanlıİngiliz ilişkilerine tesir etmiş önemli isimlerdir. Bununlaberaber onlar Osmanlı İmparatorluğundaki siyasi ve toplumsal gelişmelerinniteliklerinin Londrada daha iyi anlaşılmasını sağlamaya yönelik bir yakla-şım içinde olmamıştır. Bu sebeple İngilterede Osmanlılara yönelik bilgisizlikve önyargıların daha da beslenmesine sebep olmuşlardır. İngilterenin İstanbulBüyükelçiliğine musallat olmuş zafiyet, sadece Lowther ve Fitzmaurice ile de sınırlı olmamış diğer görevlilerde son derece Osmanlı-karşıtı bir hissiyat ve eylemiçinde olmuştur. Bu çerçevede, Birinci Dünya Savaşı boyunca hiç dinmeksizindevam ettirilecek bu propagandanın, Türk ve Osmanlı-karşıtlığı noktasındaesasen yıllardır önyargılarla beslendiğini kaydetmek doğru olur.

Gerald Fitzmaurice, Chief Dragoman of the British Embassy in Turkey andBritish ambassador (1908 1914) Geard Lowther were two important actors ofOttoman-British relations. However, they were not very interested in conveyingthe political and social developments in Ottoman Empire to London, a situationthat led to ignorance and prejudice on the affairs of the Ottoman Empire. The other stuff of the British embassy in İstanbul who had anti-Ottoman feelingsalso share the blame.
