A Case of Contact Dermatitis Due To Temporary Henna Tattoo
Henna is a greenish powder made from the leaves of plants named Lawsonia inermis. Temporary henna tattoos are becoming popular, especially among teenagers. Allergic and irritant reactions related to henna are rare. Para-phenylendiamine is added to henna dye for colour darkening and to speed up dyeing. Para-phenylendiamine may be a very potent contact sensitizer. We report a 21-years-old woman with allergic contact dermatitis due to temporary henna tattoos. A 21-yearold female patient was admitted to our outpatient clinic with complaints of redness and itching for several days on the right side of the neck. We learned that the patient had a temporary henna tattoo on the holiday, two weeks ago. Topical mometasone furoate and systemic levocetirizine were initiated to the patient with the diagnosis of contact dermatitis. The lesions of the patient were completely healed within two weeks, without leaving a scar.
