Fibromyalgia and sleep disturbance

Chronic widespread pain, fatigue, morning fatigue, stiffness and sleep disorders are common symptoms of FMS. Sleep disturbance is typically seen in 80% of patients with fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia patients also observed that during sleep, the duration of wakefulness was prolonged, the duration of sleep was shortened, and the depth of sleep decreased. They have a lower sleep quality. Most sleep passes during the Non-REM period. When examined by polysomnography, it has a low delta / alpha wave ratio. In fibromyalgia patients, sleep problems pull into the patient’s never-ending pain cycle. It has been shown that bad sleep reduces both pain threshold and cognitive skills in pain management.
