Does Emotional Stress Affect Nutritional Status in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes?

Aim: This study aimed to determine the relationship between anthropometric measures, biochemical markers, nutritional status, emotional distress and depression status of Type 2 diabetic patients. Subjects and Methods: Study sample was consisted of a total of 165 patients who applied to the private hospital in Ankara with a diagnosis of diabetes, aged 19-64 years. Their emotional distress scores were measured by Problem Areas in Diabetes Questionnaire (PAID) and depression scores were measured by Beck Depression Scales that were culturally adaptated and validated in Turkish patients. Results: Cereal-bread group (302.8±118.7 g), total fat (24.5±26.5 g), sweet foods (14.1±18.3 g) and energy (1779±331.2 kcal/day), carbohydrate (51.6±4.9% energy), protein (16.7±2.2% energy) and saturated fat (25.3±7.3 g) intakes were higher in patients having high PAID score (≥33) than those having low PAID score (
