LESION STERILIZATION AND TISSUE REPAIR IN PEDIATRIC DENTISTRY

The main purpose of pediatric dentistry is to keep the primary teeth healthy until exfoliation time. In addition to providing aesthetic, phonation and chewing functions, primary teeth also can act as space maintainers in the dental arch. Due to the rapid progression of caries in primary teeth, endodontic treatment or extraction is usually required. Recent studies have shown that various antibiotic pastes provide root canal bacterial elimination within the LSTR concept namely, “lesion sterilisation and tissue repair”. In this way, tissue repair occurs with host immunity, and tooth extraction can be delayed.Clinical studies have reported that LSTR therapy is clinically and radiologically successful. For this reason, it offers an alternative treatment option for uncooperative patients that can be applied easily in dental setting within a short time.
