Bulgaristan’da Jivkov rejiminin yıkılmasının ardından demokrasiye geçilmesine karşın ülkenin önemli etnik gruplarından biri olan Romanlar yeni sisteme entegre olamamıştır. Bulgaristan Romanları toplumsal hayatın ekonomi, sağlık, eğitim, siyaset, din ve örgütlenme gibi alanlarında yapısal sorunlarla karşılaşmaktadır. Bununla birlikte, Roman azınlık ülkede nefret söylemine ve ayrımcılığa en fazla maruz kalan etnik grubu oluşturmaktadır. Bulgaristan yönetimi hâlihazırda Roman sorunlarının çözümüne yönelik Avrupa Birliği (AB) tarafından onaylanan Ulusal Roman Entegrasyon Stratejisi isimli bir proje yürütmektedir. Çalışmanın amacı Bulgaristan’daki Roman azınlığın toplumsal hayatın temel alanlarında yaşadığı güncel sorunları analiz etmektir

Although Bulgaria adopted democracy after the collapse of the Zhivkov regime, the Roma community, one of the important ethnic groups in the country, could not be fully integrated into the new system. They still face structural problems in realms of economy, health, education, politics, religion and organization. Besides, the Roma minority is the ethnic group, which is the most exposed to hate speech and discrimination. The government of Bulgaria is currently conducting an EU-funded project, named as National Roma Integration Strategy aiming to solving the problems of this ethnic group.
