The protective approaches against dry period mastitis in cows

Biochemical and cellular changes in mammary glands are observed during dry period. The glandular tissue is quite sensitive to new intramammarial infections due to involution and colostrogenesis at the beginning and end of dry period. Especially the environmental bacteria have been accepted as the causative agents for new infections that occur in this period and different control programs are established to combat these microorganisms. In recent years, specific protective approaches for dry period have been improved not only for udder health in cows but also for food hygiene and public health.
