Yerelden Küresele Kent Haberciliği ve The Guardian Cities Örneği

Son yıllarda, kent gazeteciliği olarak adlandırılan ve yerel gazetecilikten belli açılardan farklılaşan bir alanın örnekleri çeşitli web sitelerinde karşımıza çıkmaya başlamıştır. Henüz yeni olan bu alanın tanımı ve kapsamı net değilse de yerel veya topluluk gazeteciliği olarak bilinen alanlardan hem beslenen hem de farklılaşan bir alan olarak geliştiği görülmektedir. Böyle bir alanın gelişmesinde tarihsel ve toplumsal süreçte kentleşmenin küresel olarak geldiği boyut ve ortaya çıkardığı sorunlar önemli bir rol oynamaktadır. Diğer yandan dijital teknolojilerin gazetecilik alanında kullanımı da yeni gazetecilik türlerinin gelişmesinde etkili olmaktadır. Bu makalenin amacı, henüz tanımı ve sınırları net olmayan bu alanın genel özelliklerini, çerçevesini, diğer gazetecilik alanlarıyla benzeyen ve farklılaşan yanlarını uygulamadaki yeni örnekler üzerinden anlamaya ve açıklamaya çalışmaktır. Bu çerçevede öncelikle kent gazeteciliğini ortaya çıkaran faktörler ele alınmakta, daha sonra da örnek olarak seçilen The Guardian gazetesinin bir yayını olan Cities üzerinden kent gazeteciliğinin kapsamı ve temel nitelikleri incelenmektedir.

Local to Global Urban Journalism and The Guardian Cities Example

In recent years, examples of a new field called urban journalism have started to appear on various websites. This field, which is different from local and community journalism, is still developing so its definition and scope are not clear. The global dimension of urbanization and the problems it raises play an important role in the emergence of this field. In addition, the use of digital technologies in the field of journalism has important effects on the development of new types of journalism. The aim of this article is to try to understand and explain the general framework and basic features of urban journalism, which has not yet been sufficiently discussed in academic literature. In this framework, the scope and basic characteristics of urban journalism are examined through the example of Cities, a publication of The Guardian newspaper.
