Comparison of alfentanil, ketamine, ketorolac and diphenhidramine for prevention of propofol induced injection
Pain on injection of propofol was assessed in a randomised study of 100 patients. The patients received either saline (control group), alfentanil, ketamin, ketorolac or diphenhidramine before injection of propofol via a vein in the dorsum of the hand. The incidence of pain on injection of propofol in the control group was significantly higher than the other groups. Although there was no difference among alfentanil, ketamine, ketorolac and diphenhidramine groups in preventing propofol induced pain, ketamine and diphenhidramine seemed to be clinically more effective than others.
