The examination of the practices and records of the nurses for patients feeding enteral

This is a descriptive study carried out to analyse the practices and records of the nurses for patients feeding enteral. The research was conducted with 26 nurses (%86.6) in brain surgery, neurology and internal medicine clinics in a university hospital. The data were collected by means of “Observation Form” improved, through by observing nurses two days. It was determined that The nurses changed set of feeding on a daily, controlled residual volume before feeding and provided medication through the tube in all observations. However, it was stated that 15.5% of the observations didn’t securely fix the feeding tube by nurses, 20.2% of the observations didn’t write diary date on the measured residual volume injector and 15.5% of the observations didn’t wash the injector. It was determined that 9.5% of the observations didn’t write the date of inserted feeding tube, 23% of the observations didn’t record the change date of set feeding, 63.5% of the observations didn’t record out the lenght of the feding tube and all of the observations didn’t record number of feeding tube. It recommended that enteral feeding care guidelines created for nurses use in the clinics.
