Evolutionary dynamic of administrative thought: Environmental determinism or ideational advancement ?

The study aims to study to discuss whether environmental conditions or, ideational expansions are determining dynamics in the progress of administrative thought, by analyzing the evolution of administrative thought from the early 20th century, when it became a scientific discipline. The dialectical method has been used in the analysis as it allows (i) to read the progress of administrative thought from a historical perspective, and (ii) to analyze eras from the viewpoints of both the environmental conditions and ideational advancement peculiar to those eras. The analysis revealed that the determining dynamic of the advancement of administrative thought could neither be explained by environmental conditions, nor ideational advancement alone. It was found that in the evolution of thought, intellectual elements were needed to describe ideational atmosphere and conceptual progress, while the explanation of the periodical uprising of ideational trends required materialistic components. In this context, it is concluded that administrative thought has been transformed and has evolved via the interrelated motion of the dynamics of environmental conditions and ideational expansions over time.
