Clinical Evaluation of the Efficacy of Ethyl-2-Cyanoacrylate as a Bioadhesive Material in Periodontal Flap Surgery

The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of ethyl-2-cyanoacrylate E-SA and conventional silk sutures on wound healing in periodontal flap surgery. 15 patients with chronic periodontitis with probing depth ≥5 mm in maxillar anterior region were included in the study. On the test site ethyl-2-cyanoacrylate was applied for flap closure after periodontal flap surgery n = 15 and on the control site silk sutures were used n = 15 . The plaque and gingival indices were recorded at baseline and 1 day, 3 days, 7 days, 14 days and 21 days after surgery. The following parameters were also recorded: pain, edema, erythema and necrosis. The cyanoacrylate was associated with less amount of inflammation during the healing period when compared with silk sutures p0.05 . Postoperative pain in cyanoacrylate group was less significant than in control group on the first and third day after surgery p
