Fluoride Administration, Dental Fluorosis and the New Treatment Approaches in Fluorosis

Dental fluorosis is a developmental enamel defect which occurs as a result of exposure to fluoride at high concentrations during teeth development that leads to decreased mineral content of enamel and an increase in porosity. Dental fluorosis may vary due to the time, period and fluoride concentration exposal, individual factors such as weight, physical activity, dietary habits and bone development. Even if the best protective mechanisim against dental fluorosis is the control of fluor intake, once fluorosis is observed and patient feels discomfort due to the estheteic problems, the treatment options should be considered as in literature. In this manner, this review reports the fluoride usage, dental fluorosis and the new treatment approaches
