Hemostatic agents for pulpotomy treatment in primary teeth

The need for pulpal treatment in the primary teeth is greater than the permanent teeth, because in primary teeth enamel and dentin is thinner, the pulp chamber is relatively wider and pulp horns are closer to the surface than permanent teeth. Pulpotomy is a frequently used method in pediatric dentistry and for the success of the treatment material is an important factor. Clot formation affects healing as well as it can create a favorable environment for the bacteria to induce inflammation and infection and also decreases the success of the treatment by preventing the pulp tissue- medicament contact. Therefore, it is believed that an effective haemostasis, increases treatment success. For these reasons hemostatic agents have begun to be used in pulpotomy treatments. The purpose of this paper is to review various hemostatic agents used in pulpotomy treatment in pediatric dentistry practice.
