The fourth state of matter: Plasma and applications of atmospheric pressure cold plasmas ın dentistry
The fourth state of matter, plasma, contains active components such as: positive and negative ions, electrons, photons, ultraviolet, stimulated atoms/molecules, radicals and neutral atoms/molecules. Plasmas are used in many different industries including food and textile engineering. In medicine and dentistry, disinfecting and ensuring rapid regeneration of living tissue without harm is an emerging isssue. One variety of plasma referred as atomospheric pressure cold plasma, accomplishes disinfection, cell-tissue biostimulation, surface modification and/or activation without producing thermal effects. In this review we aim to provide general information about plasma, and how it is essential in understanding the utilization of atmospheric pressure cold plasma in medicine, dentistry and periodontology.
