Perceptions of Freshmen Students on the Industrial Engineering Profession
This study shows the results of the research aiming to determine the perceptions of freshmen students on the industrial engineering
profession. The research was carried out at Istanbul Technical University (ITU), Industrial Engineering (IE) Department. The data were
collected from students who took the Introduction to Industrial Engineering course for five years: between 2015-2016 and 2019-2020
academic years. Students were asked to indicate the first concept associated with IE, the professions closest to EM, and where they thought
EM graduates work. The study shows the findings over the years and the differences in their perceptions of the two groups of students who
have taken and have not taken IE courses before.
