A SURVEY TO DETERMINE THE STRENGTHS, WEAKNESS, OPPORTUNITIES AND THREATS (SWOT) AVAILABLE FOR TOURISM IN BOZCAADA

Bozcaada is the second biggest island of Turkey on Aegean Sea after Gökceada but tourism on the Island was not improved sufficiently. For the purpose of choosing right strategies, the issues of tourism in Bozcaada and strengths, weakness, opportunities and threats (SWOT) of Bozcaada were being tried to determine by this study. The survey was done at two stages. First survey was carried out between November and December 2007 and second survey was done between January and February 2009. It was tried to reach the participants who could say something and play some role for tourism in Bozcaada. Data at first survey was collected through six open-ended questions and second questionnaire was improved with the outcomes of first survey. The importance levels of each dimension which came out of first survey were tried to determine. The issue most emphasized by participants was transportation at first survey, but it was price at second survey. Cleanliness of sea was the most important strength of first survey and being island was the leading strength of second survey. First Servey showed Gökçeada and Assos as the most important competitors of Island but Assos and Ayvalık were found the leading comptitors in the second survey.
