AN OVERWİEV OF PIT AND FISSURE SEALENTS İN PREVENTİVE DENTISTRY

Oral health is an important issue that affects other systems in our body as well. One of the most important factors that threaten oral health is dental caries. In recent years, caries prevention and reducing the prevalence/ incidence of caries, protecting existing dental structures as much as possible, preventive dentistry have been very interesting topics in dentistry. Professional fluoride applications, pit and fissure sealant applications are the most prominent applications in preventive dentistry. By examining the literature information about fissure sealants, which have increased in importance in preventive dentistry today; It is aimed to make a general review on subjects such as the morphology of pit and fissure surfaces, the formation of caries on these surfaces, the history of pit and fissure sealants, the indications and contraindications of this application, the effects of saliva and moisture on this application, the place of bonding in pit and fissure sealant applications.
