Osmanlı tarihçisi Suraiya Faroqhi’nin 1985 yılında kaleme aldığı ‘Orta Halli Osmanlılar’ adlı eseri incelememizin en önemli amacı şehir tarihinden yola çıkılarak şehri oluşturan unsurların anlatımında Ankara ve Kayseri şehirlerinin örneklem olarak okuyucuya sunulmasıdır. Bunu sunarken kullandığı dil ve üslub, eseri akademik bir eser yaparken aynı zamanda sosyal bir tarihi ortaya koymaktadır.
