YAŞLI BİREYLERİN SOSYAL MEDYA KULLANIMI VE YAŞLANMA ALGISI

Giriş; İnsanların yaşlanmaya ilişkin algıları genellikle olumsuzdur ve sıklıkla sağlık ve işlevselliğin azaldığı ifade edilir. Sosyal ilişkileri sürdürmek, iyi yaşlanmanın temel unsurudur. Tek başına yaşayan çok sayıda yaşlı birey sosyal medyayı kullanarak çevrimiçi sosyal ağlara ve çevrimiçi tartışma forumlarına katılarak anlamlı sosyal iletişim kurma olanağı sağlar. Sosyal medya iletişimi, yaşlıların başkalarıyla sosyal ve duygusal olarak bağlı kalmalarına yardımcı olmak için bir ortam sunar ve yaşlılıkla ilgili algıları olumlu etkiler. Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı sosyal medya kullanımı ve yaşlanma algısı arasındaki ilişkinin incelenmesidir. Yöntem: Araştırma 60 yaş ve üzerindeki, en az lise öğrenimi görmüş 273 yaşlı birey üzerinde yürütüldü. Veriler online olarak toplandı. Araştırmada “Yaşlılığın Algılanması Ölçeği” ve “Sosyal Medya Kullanma Nedenleri Ölçeği” kullanıldı. Araştırmada ayrıca sosyo-demografik değişkenlerin yaşlanma algısı ve sosyal medya kullanma nedenleri ile ilişkisi ele alındı. Araştırma verilerinin analizinde t testi, tek yönlü varyans analizi ve regresyon analizi kullanıldı. Sonuçlar: Araştırma sonuçları sosyal medya bağımlılığı ile yaşlanma algısı arasında anlamlı bir ilişki olduğunu, sosyal medya bağımlılığı arttıkça, yaşlanma algısının (r=-,186 p< .01) düştüğü belirlenmiştir. Araştırmada ayrıca yaş, algılanan gelir düzeyi ve sosyal medya kullanma sıklığının yaşlanma algısı üzerinde etkili olmaktadır. Tartışma: Bu bulgular sosyal medya kullanımının yaşlanma algısını azaltmada bir müdahale aracı olarak kabul edilebileceğini düşündürmektedir.
