Evaluation of meningococcic meningitis cases by Fourier analysis in Turkiye between 1990-1996

Purpose: In this study, the periodic time patterns of the meningococcic meningitis which is among the communicable disease was evaluated by the validity of the FA. Material and Methods: The cases belong to the meningococcic meningitis between 1990-1996 in Turkey were dealed and seasonal and periodic time patterns oj the diseases were determined by FA. Finding: The cases of the meningococcic meningitis were standardized in accordance with the population .and it is found that there is exponential decreement of the standardized values as a result of the trend analysis (y=237.24e-0.014×; t=-10.82; r =-0.77; p<0.001) As a result of analysis of variance (ANOVA), 7 periodicities were found to be significant. Till 1993, the rate of cane reports were high, after then an absolute decrement was observed, in 1996, it stabilized. The case reports of meningococcic meningitis were found to be higher in 1993 than in the other years as a result of FA. An epidemia of meningococcic meningitis cases appear in spring and winter (January, February, March and April), whereas the reports reach the lowest level in summer and early autumn (July, August, September and October). Conclusion: The periodicity and seasonal fluctuations of communicable diseases seen in the community are evaluated with the minimal error by FA.
