Mari dili (Ural dil ailesinin Fin-Ugor grubuna dahildir ve Mordvin dili ile beraber Fin dillerinin Volga alt grubunu oluşturur. Çeremisçe olarak da bilinen Marice, Rusya’da yaşayan azınlık bir grubun dilidir. Mariler çoğunlukla Volga bölgesindeki Mari El Cumhuriyeti’nde yaşamaktadır.Ayrıca Başkurdistan ve Tataristan’da da önemli Mari azınlıkları bulunmaktadır. Bu çalışmada konuşurlarının gitgide azaldığı Fin-Ugor dillerinden Marice hakkında bilgi verilecek ve bu dil yok olma tehlikesi, sosyolinguistik durum ve Türk dilleri ile etkileşimi gibi konular kapsamında da değerlendirilecektir.

The Mari language belongs to the Finno-Ugric group of the Ural language family and constitutes the Volga subgroup of Finno languages together with the Mordvin language. Mari, also known as “Cheremis”, is the language of a minority population living in Russia. Maris mostly live in the Republic of Mari El in the Volga region. In addition, there is also a rather large Mari minority in Bashkortostan and Tatarstan. In this study, information on the Finno-Ugric language Mari whose speakers decrease constantly will be provided and this language will be studied also in the context of danger of extinction, sociolinguistic status and interaction with Turkic languages.
