Yeni Asur Metinlerinde Geçen Ay İsimleri

Ay yılı esasına dayanan bir takvim kullandıkları anlaşılan Asurlulardan günümüze pek çok çivi yazılı belge intikal etmiştir. Özellikle Yeni Asur Devri olarak adlandırılan dönemden kalma metinlerde, ay isimlerinin netleştiği ve tarih düşme ihtiyacı hissedilen her belgede bir ay isminin zikredildiği görülmektedir. Ay isimlerini ihtiva eden söz konusu belgelerden dönemin sosyal, siyasi, ekonomik, hukuki ve dini yapısı hakkında bilgi edinmek mümkün olmaktadır. Yeni Asur metinlerinde, Nisannu, Ayaru, Simanu, Du’ūzu, Ābu, Ulūlu, Tašritu, Arahsamna, Kislimu, Tebetu, Šabātu, Addaru gibi ay isimleri tespit edilmiş, bunlardan bazıları çok az değişiklikle günümüze kadar mevcudiyetini devam ettirmiştir
