Historical Process of Byzantine Manuscripts Studies and Online Database Project on "Bibliography Byzantine Manuscripts"

Manuscripts have attracted social scientists and collectors alike thanks to their colorful illustrations, gold-illuminated texts, and tangible and aesthetic features. Manuscripts from the Byzantine period have been a main focus in Byzantine studies since the 19th century. The first part of this study scrutinizes the publications from the 19th century to this day, considering the subject matter coherence. Efforts to discover new manuscripts continue even today. Researchers delve into studying manuscripts not only for their material value, but also the information they hold about history and social life. It is evident that a dedicated bibliography is needed as a result of the increasing scientific output on Byzantine manuscripts. So as to meet this need, the second half of the study introduces the "Bibliography on Byzantine Manuscripts" (http://byzantinemanuscript.bozok.edu.tr/), an online database established under the support of the Scientific Research Project by Yozgat Bozok University.
