Effect of Helicobacter Pylori in Increasing Prevalence of Celiac Disease
Objective: Investigating the effect of helicobacter pylori on the prevalence of celiac disease. Material and Methodology: 38 celiac patients diagnosed in histologic and serologic terms (27 women and 11 men) were included in the survey. 50 more patients with no indication of celiac were also included in order to see if there is any difference by determining their helicobacter pylori prevalence. Findings: Helicobacter pylori turned out as positive in 20 cases with celiac disease (52.6%) and in 36 cases without the disease (72%). No statistically significant difference was found between the two groups in terms of helicobacter pylori infection (p=0.100). Conclusion: The relationship between helicobacter pylori and celiac disease is debatable. There is need to conduct virulence surveys as well to go deeper in understanding this relationship.
