Bariatric Surgery and Perioperative Nursing Care
Bariatric surgery, which has begun to be implemented in recent years as an option for longterm weight loss, is a surgical procedure that improves quality of life, reduces chronic diseases and mortality by reducing or completely eliminating obesity. This surgical intervention is considered the most effective method for achieving permanent weight loss in individuals with a third degree of obesity and morbid obesity, who cannot be treated with only diet and exercise. For the success of bariatric surgery, the patient should be prepared properly in the preoperative period, the presence of a team with previous bariatric surgery experience in the operating room should be ensured and adequate and quality postoperative care should be provided. Therefore, the nurses should be acquainted with nursing care in bariatric surgery. This article was prepared with the aim of presenting perioperative nursing care in bariatric surgery.
