THE RELATIONSHIP AMONG REPEATED SPRINT ABILITY, ISOKINETIC LEG STRENGTH AND ANAEROBIC PERFORMANCE IN FUTSAL PLAYERS

The purpose of the present study was to investigate the relationship between repeated sprint ability, isokinetic knee strength and anaerobic performance in futsal players. 13 male futsal players (age: 24.38± 2.46 years) participated in this study voluntarily. Repeated sprint ability (RSA) with and without change-of direction (COD) were determined by 6x25m and 6x(2x12.5m) repeated sprint test respectively At the end of repeated sprint tests, best sprint time, total sprint time, mean sprint time and percentage of performance decrement were calculated. Peak isokinetic knee extension and flexion torques at 60º.s-1, 120º.s-1and 180º.s-1 were determined by isokinetic dynamometer. Counter movement jump test (CMJ) and squat jump (SJ) were used for anaerobic power. The results of Pearson Correlation analysis, CMJ was significantly correlated with 120º right knee extension torque (r=0.598; p<0.05), 120º right knee flexion torque (r=0.563; p<0.05), 180º left knee extension torque (r=.647; p<0.05), and 180º right knee extension torque (r=.568; p<0.05). On the other hand, best time, total time, mean time and percentage of performance decrement of RSA with and without COD were not significantly correlated with any of the measured performance variables (p>0.05). In conclusion, the findings of the present study indicated that leg strength plays important role in anaerobic performance in male futsal players.
