ACUTE EFFECT OF ANAEROBIC EXERCISE ON SIMPLE VISUAL AND AUDITORY REACTION TIMES IN TEAM SPORTS ATHLETES

The aim of this study is to examine the effect of anaerobic exercise on the simple reaction times of male and female team athletes. A total of 120 athletes who have been active in basketball, volleyball, handball, football and hockey branches for at least 2 years were included in the study voluntarily. Age, height, body weight and simple visual and auditory reaction time and Running-based Anaerobic Sprint Test (RAST), which is an anaerobic test, measurements of the groups were performed. Simple visual and auditory reaction time measurements of the participants were applied before the anaerobic test (pretest). Then simple visual and auditory reaction time measurements were repeated following the RAST test application after warming up (post-test). There was no statistically significant difference between the pre-test and post-test parameters of the groups and simple visual and auditory reaction time values (p> 0.05). In addition, in comparison between male and female athletes, male athletes were found to have significantly shorter auditory reaction times than female athletes only in the soccer branches (p<0,05). As a result, it can be said that anaerobic exercises does not cause any change in the visual and auditory reaction times between the branches of the team athletes, so athletes with at least 2 years of experience are able to respond quickly from the central nervous system against the stimulation after an anaerobic exercise, and that the neurocognitive functions are not impaired under difficult conditions.
