Wingate anaerobic test performance profile of and gender differences in sedentary university students

The purpose of this study was to determine the Wingate anaerobic test profile and gender differences in university students. 60 Female and 51 male sedentary university students participated in this study voluntarily (agefemate=21,63±1.44 years, body weightfema_ ie=55.98±7.46 kg, heightfemaie=162.30±5.74 cm and agemale= 22.39±2.02 years, body weightmaie=73.83±8.50 kg, heightmaie=176.88±6.77 cm). Subjects' body composition including body fat percent and lean body mass were determined and subjects were tested for peak, mean and minimum power and for fatigue index during 30 s Wingate anaerobic power test. Wingate anaerobic power indices were expressed in absolute, relative to body weight and relative to lean body mass. Independent samples t-test was used for statistical analysis. Results indicated that sedentary male and particularly female university students have lower anaerobic performance indices compared to the results of other studies. An other results of this study is that male university students had significantly higher anaerobic power indices compared with female university students with respect to both absolute and relative terms (p
