Self-Esteem and Body Image In Amputee and Non-Amputee Wheelchair Basketball Players

The aim of this study is to determine the differences between self-esteem and body image perceptions of amputee and non-amputee wheelchair basketball playersand to determine the factors that affect self-esteem andbody image perceptions. The sample consists a total of100 male wheelchair basketball players, 46 of which arebelow knee amputees and 54 are non-amputees. Self-es- teem sub-test of Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale, AmputeeBody Image Scale and Body Cathexis Scale were applied. Athlete Information Form was used for demographicalinformation. As a result it has been concluded by thisresearch that: there is a significant relationship betweenself-esteem and body image (p=0,000). However, thereis no significant relationship between amputation andbody image (p > 0,05).
