Tarih bilimi, kaçınılmaz olarak geçmişe dayandığı için bir ‘hatırlama’, ‘hafızada arama’, ‘hatırlatma’ etkinliğidir. Dolayısıyla insanın, tarihsel bilgiye dayanan bir hafızası ve hatırlama biçiminden söz konusudur. Öte yandan edebiyat ise esasen dil, düşünce, hayal, hafıza ve çağrışıma dayanan bir sanat etkinliğidir. Özellikle konu ya da kurmaca bir araç olarak tarih bilgisinden yola çıkan eserlerde ‘tarihsel hafızaya’ bağlı bir hatırlama biçimi ortaya çıkar. Böylece yazı, dil, yaşantı, zaman, söylem gibi anlatısal araçları bakımından tarih bilimi ve edebiyat arasında kurgusal ve tahkiyevi bir ortaklığın varlığından söz edilebilir. Bu bağlamda okunduğunda, Türk edebiyatında ilk Türk romancılarından biri olan Ahmet Mithat Efendi’nin Ahmet Metin ve Şirzat romanında tarihe dayalı bir hatırlama biçimi söz konusudur. Bu romanda Ahmet Mithat Efendi, tarih algısı bakımından 19. yüzyılın romantik tarih anlayışının etkisindedir. Romantik tarih algısına bağlı olarak geçmişe ideolojik ve idealist bir perspektifte bakan yazar, iki örnek kahraman yaratmıştır. Bu çerçevede romanın merkezi kahramanları Ahmet Metin ile Şirzat, Osmanlı-Müslüman-Türk kimliğini temsil eden birer prototiptirler. Roman, Ahmet Metin’in Selçuklu asilzadesi Şirzat’ın maceralarını anlatan bir tarih kitabının peşine düşerek Sicilya’ya yaptığı deniz yolculuğundan oluşmaktadır. Yazar-anlatıcı bu yolculukta tarih kitapları, seyahatname, sözlük, ansiklopedi gibi çeşitli kaynaklara başvurur. Bu makalede, Ahmet Metin ve Şirzat romanında merkezi bir konumda yer alan tarihsel hafızanın görünme biçimleri incelenmektedir. Çünkü romanda anlatıcı veya kahramanların neleri hatırladığı, hatırlamanın amacı, hafızanın anlam ve nitelikleri, anlatının özünü ve odak noktasını temsil eder.

Since the science of history is inevitably based on the past, it is an event of 'remembering', 'searching in memory', 'reminding'. Thus, human has a memory and a way of remembering based on this historical knowledge. On the other hand, literature is essentially an art event based on language, thought, imagination, memory and reminiscence. Especially in the literary works that depending on the knowledge of history as a subject or a fictional tool, a form of remembrance based on 'historical memory' emerges. Therefore, there is a fictional and narrative partnership between the science of history and literature in terms of its narrative tools such as text, language, experience, time and discourse. When read in this context, Ahmet Mithat Efendi, who is one of the first Turkish novelists in Turkish literature, has a historical remembrance in his novel Ahmet Metin and Sirzat. In this novel, Ahmet Mithat Efendi is under the influence of the 19th century's romantic understanding of history in terms of his perception of history. The author, who looks at the past from an ideological and idealistic perspective based on his romantic perception of history, has created two exemplary heroes. In this context, the central protagonists of the novel, Ahmet Metin and Sirzat, are prototypes representing the Ottoman-Muslim-Turkish identity. The novel consists of Ahmet Metin's sea voyage to Sicily in pursuit of a history book describing the adventures of the Seljuk nobleman Sirzat. In this journey, the author-narrator refers to various sources such as history books, travelogues, dictionaries and encyclopedias. In this article, the appearance of historical memory, which takes a central place in the novel of Ahmet Metin and Sirzat, has examined. Because in the novel, what the narrator or heroes remember, the purpose of remembering, the meaning and qualities of memory represent the essence and focus of the narrative.
