Almanya'nın Trier Üniversitesi Fonetik Laboratuvarında yapılan bu araştırmada, şu hecesinin oluşum safhaları incelenmiş; ş ve u seslerinin birleşimi esnasında oluşan sapmalar tespit edilmiştir. Sadece 2 sesten oluşmuş gibi görünen şu hecesi, aslında 605 ms (yaklaşık 6/10 s) süren 16 değişik sesten oluşmuştur. Bu 16 değişik sesten 14’ünü kulak yoluyla birbirlerinden ayırt etmek mümkün değildir. Sapma alanındaki bu 14 değişik ses, 105 ms, yani yaklaşık 1/10 s'de oluşmakta ve ş ile u sesleri arasında bir köprü görevi yapmaktadır. Eğer bu birbirlerinden farklı 14 değişik ses var olmasaydı, duymaya alışmadığımız türden niteliği ve niceliği bozuk bir şu hecesi söz konusu olacaktı.

In this study which is done in the laboratories of the University of Trier in Germany formation phases of şu syllable have been studied, the deviations which have occured during the process of the combination ş and u voices have been determined. Şu syllable which seems to be consisted of only two voices in fact constitutes sixteen different voices which lasts 605 ms (approximately 6/10 s). It's impossible to discriminate fourteen of these sixteen voices by hearing. These fourteen different voices in the field of deviation is formed in 105 ms, that is approximately 1/10 seconds and it's like a bridge between ş und u voices. If we hadn't had these fourteen different voices which are not the same as each other, then we would have had a şu syllabe which is very far from the desired quantity and quality that we are not very used to.
