AMERİKAN BOARD ÖRGÜTÜ’NÜN ORTADOĞU BÖLGESİNDEKİ TEŞKİLATLANMASINDA ASUR MİSYONU’NUN ÖNEMİ (1851-1860)

Amerikan Board örgütü dünyada yürüttüğü faaliyetlerdeki idari teşkilatlanmasında misyon bölgeleri oluşturma esası üzerine oturtmuştur. Bu birimler istasyon ve dış-istasyon olarak alt birimlere ayrılmışlardır. İstasyonlar, bünyesinde dini, eğitim, hastane, yardım vb. bütün çalışmaların bir misyonerin idaresi altında yürütüldüğü birer alt idari birimler olarak tanımlanmaktadır. Dışistasyonlar ise istasyonlar etrafındaki çevre bölgelerde yaşayan halka hizmet ulaştırmak için teşkil edilmişlerdir. Bu teşkilatlanma içerisinde çalışmalar, istasyonlarda görevli Amerikalılar ve yerli çalışanlar tarafından yürütülmüştür. Amerikalı görevliler; Amerikan Board örgütü tarafından atanmış erkek misyonerler, bu misyonerlerin eşleri, bekâr bay ve kadın misyonerler, doktorlar ve diğer tıbbi elemanlardan oluşmaktadır. Yerli çalışanlar ise Amerikan Board örgütü tarafından atanmış veya görevlendirilmiş papaz ve vaizler, öğretmenler ve diğer yerli yardımcılardan meydana gelmektedir. Misyonerlerin ikamet yeri kesinlikle istasyonlar olarak belirlenmiştir. Yürütmeleri gereken çalışmaları buradan idare etmişlerdir. Örgütün bu teşkilat yapısı Ortadoğu bölgesinde de uygulanmıştır. Bu uygulamada çizilen sınırlar ve her bir misyon bölgesine verilen isimler tesadüfi değildir. Her bir bölgenin sınırları ve isimleri, bizzat görevlendirilen misyonerler tarafından yapılan incelemeler sonucunda hazırlanan raporlar çerçevesinde belirlenmiştir. Böyle bir inceleme sonucunda Osmanlı Devleti sınırları içerisinde oluşturulan Asur Misyonu ya da Asur Misyon Bölgesi Ortadoğu’da bugün yaşanan gelişmeler açısından oldukça önemlidir. Bu bilgiler ışığında çalışmada, Amerikan Board ve Osmanlı arşiv kaynakları ışığında 1853- 1861 yılları arasında Asur Misyonu olarak faaliyet yürütülen bölgedeki çalışmalar ayrıntılı bir şekilde ele alınacaktır.

IMPORTANCE of THE ASSYRIAN MISSION in THE ORGANIZATION of THE AMERICAN BOARD in THE MIDDLE EAST (1851-1860)

In the administrative organization of the activities of the American Board in the World, the mission regions are formed as basic units. These units are divided into sub-units as stations and out-stations. Stations are defined as sub-administrative units where all works such as religious, edication, health, aid etc. activities are carried out under the direction of a missionary. Out-stations are designed to provide services to the people living in the vicinity of the stations. The work in this organization was carried out by the American citizens and local employees in the stations. American citizens are male missionaries, their wives, single men and women missionaries, doctors and other medical staff appointed by the American Board organization. Local employees are priests and preachers, teachers and other assistants appointed by the American Board organization. Missionaries reside at the stations. They managed the work they had to do here. This organizational structure of the organization was implemented in the Middle East region. The borders drawn in this application and the names given to each mission area are not accidental. The boundaries and names of each region were determined within the framework of the reporst prepared by the missionaries assigned to them. As a result of such a review, the Assyrian Mission formed within the borders of the Ottoman State is very important in terms of the developments in the Middle East today. In the light of this information, in the acticle the activities carried out in the Assyrian Mission between the years 1853-1861, will be discussed in detail on the basis of the American Board and Ottoman achives.
