PURCHASING BEHAVIORS OF Y GENERATION IN THE CONTEXT OF SUSTAINABILITY AND GREEN CONCEPTS
The fact that the resources of the planet we live in are not limitless, has been busy many scientific fields to offer solutions for many years. As long as the current systems and approaches in the world continue, the risk of irreversible damage to ecology has been increasing day by day. The trauma of recent environmental disasters has caused people to attach more importance to the matter of sustainability. Given the fact that human life depends on the survival of ecological life; governments, media, and companies have begun to bring up sustainability to the agenda more than before. Besides, the matter of sustainability has also begun to be included in communication studies. The future of ecology is directly related to the consumption habits of the people living in the world. Especially the relation between the mass media and the consumption phenomenon is largely occupying the field of social sciences. The created consumer culture has widened its scope of influence with the contents of the mass media, which has led to the emergence of a 'consumer society'. This study focuses on the significance of 'sustainability' and 'green' approaches and the awareness of green circle and sustainability of the Gen Y. In the study, their buying behaviors in this context were investigated through a questionnaire and data on the current situation in our country were obtained. As a result of the obtained data, it was determined that the individuals included in the generation Y and the individuals expressed as digital natives are sensitive to the environment they are in, and they reflect this in their buying behaviors, even though they live with dominant consumer identity.
