Assessment of particulate matter-related pollution in the dental prosthesis laboratory air in terms of worker’s health
The aim of this study was to determine air pollution in a work environment related to particulate matter that arises during dental prosthesis production in 6 dental prosthesis laboratories in Kocaeli, and to investigate which health symptoms this pollution might cause. It is also determined the size range of the particulates that were most often observed in the units where the production was carried out. The study queried whether the symptoms of persons working in these laboratories were related to the sizes of particles. At least 3 samples were taken from each laboratory. The samples were collected using a 5-stage Sioutas Cascade Impactor; the results were assessed through gravimetric measurements. The lowest PM2,5 concentration was found in the dental prosthesis laboratory that had the best ventilation system. The results showed statistically significant differences between the level of PM2,5 and and workers’ symptoms, such as noisy breathing and itchy eyes.
